The master’s degree in public administration at Upper Iowa is undergoing exciting revisions that will enhance the learning experience. The revised program went into effect in January 2010.
Program Overview and Invitation
The UIU MPA program provides learners with the knowledge and skills needed to assume a leadership role and to improve administrative and managerial quality in government and non-profit organizations. Our online program allows students to engage in learning regardless of their physical location. In this way UIU can provide a quality education to a diverse group of learners. The program intends to instill in learners an appreciation for how market efficiency and democratic values must be respected and balanced to promote the public good. UIU learners will be able to apply their analytical, communication, problem solving and research skills to the complex and often interconnected and interdisciplinary problems faced by mangers and leaders in government agencies and non-profit organizations. Because UIU graduates are able to leverage the connections between theory and practice to help solve problems, they will be well qualified to assume managerial and leadership positions in the government and in the non-profit sector.
UIU offers a flexible program that provides the essential components of a well-rounded public administration education while allowing learners the flexibility to design a course of study that meets their specific career goals. Our curriculum is built on the three pillars.
1. The ability to effectively utilize the scientific method to address issues facing government agencies and non-profit organizations.
2. Emphasis areas that develop administrative, leadership and management skills.
3. An understanding for the role public administration plays in maintaining and strengthening core democratic values.
