AWARD-WINNING "SWEET DREAMS" PROJECT CONTINUES TO GROW. Alumna Gina Matthiesen, '10, spent another Saturday in December at the mall -- but not to shop. Instead, Matthiesen organized two day-long drives at the Shoppes at Wood Ridge, Marshfield, Wis., and Cedar Creek Mall, Rothschild, Wis., respectively, to collect "Sweet Dreams" care packages for children who are victims of drug endangered environments and placed in protective care. COLUMBUS HIGH ANNOUNCES 2012 ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR. Columbus Catholic High School has chosen Jake Schaefer as its 2012 distinguished alumnus of the year. Schaefer, of Waterloo, Iowa, attended St. Mary's Catholic Elementary School and is a 1998 graduate of Columbus. He earned an associate's degree from Hawkeye Community College and a bachelor's degree from Upper Iowa University in public administration. Read more
UIU CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH. UIU is proud to celebrate its diversity throughout February’s Black History Month with webpages dedicated to this event. Found through a link on the UIU homepage (uiu.edu), the pages include a schedule of planned events on the Fayette campus, daily blogs; links to the UIU social media sites, Office of Diversity, and additional Black History resources; and video from the 2012 MLK celebration on the Fayette campus.

TEAM PEACOCK GEARING UP FOR 2012 RAGBRAI RIDE. The UIU Advancement and Alumni Office hosted a Team Peacock Kick-Off event during the Peacock basketball games on Saturday, Jan. 28, to celebrate the ceremonial launch of the fundraising campaign for Team Peacock 2012. UIU’s event coincided with the official RAGBRAI route announcement party held in Des Moines. This year’s route will start in Sioux Center, Iowa (Saturday, July 21) and end in Clinton, Iowa (Saturday, July 28), passing through Marshalltown and Cedar Rapids mid-week. Between 2005 and 2011, Team Peacock has raised over $1 million for student scholarships.
