Wrestling in Iowa: 10 Things to Watch this Season

2. How will Upper Iowa - the only NCAA Division II program in the state - fare? The folks in Fayette waited a season, and now they're excited to get local recruit Kyle Pedretti of MFL/Mar-Mac of Monona in the lineup. Pedretti finished second at 125 pounds in the Pointer Open at Wisconsin-Stevens Point last Saturday. Coach Heath Grimm has two returning all-Americans - Travis Eggers and Tyler Mumbulo - from last season's squad that finished 14nationally. Upper Iowa won the last two Northern Sun Conference dual-meet titles, but the road gets tougher this season with the addition of Minnesota State-Mankato. The Mavericks won the Division II National Duals and were No. 2 in the nationals. (MORE)

Division I Wisconsin-Milwaukee Defeats Upper Iowa
Upper Iowa continued their early season road trip on Wednesday night. The Peacocks took the floor against the Panthers of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a Division I school and Horizon League member. The home team built a double digit lead midway through the first half en route to a 35-20 lead as the teams headed to the locker room at halftime. The Panthers continued to put the ball in the paint for scores in the second half and began to pull away from the Peacocks. After the 87-59 loss, the Peacocks dropped to 0-2 overall, while Wisconsin-Milwaukee improved to 3-1. (MORE)

Peacocks Use Second Half Run to Pull Away from Warriors
The Upper Iowa women's basketball team welcomed the warriors of Waldorf College to dorm gym for their second home game of the season. The Peacocks raced out to an eleven point lead after four minutes but Waldorf rallied to close the gap over the next five. As time wound down in the first half Upper Iowa began to pull away and led 44-32 at halftime. Waldorf cut the deficit to three points, 56-53, midway through the second half, but the home team outscored their guests 27-15 over the final twelve minutes of action. The 83-68 victory for UIU was their first of the season and evens their record at 1-1. Waldorf drops to 1-6 on the season with the loss. (MORE)
