We are pleased to announce the 2008 schedule of the Institute for Experiential Learning (IEXL) through the Upper Iowa University External Degree Program. These courses will be offered on our main campus located in scenic Fayette, Iowa. Learners will have the opportunity to work with faculty who bring both academic and practical experience to the classroom while networking with other learners from all over the world. BA 361 Human Resources Management
An overview of the policies and procedures in personnel administration in American business, including uses, sources, motivation and maintenance of employees, with major emphasis on the dynamics of social organization. Prerequisite: BA 210. 3 credits
BIO 215 Local Field Science
This course is designed as an exploration of biological, physical and plant sciences of the local area. Note: Same as PHY 215. 3 credits
BA 488 Economics of International Business
Understanding of the global economy and an awareness of the political, historial, and social environment in which international business operates. Prerequisites: BA 208 and BA 212.

PSY 338 Motivation
A review of the major theories that attempt to explain motivated behavior from a physiological, cognitve, social, environmental and/or learning point of view. Application of motiviation theories to organizations, education, sports and daily life. Prerequisite: PSY 190. 3 credits
COMM 305 Organizational Communications
A performance-based study of communication channels, patterns and problems occuring in today's organizations. The course examines how organizations operate and the roles of individual organization members. Learners will be required to make speeches. 3 credits

Tuition: The tuition is $795.00 per three semester credit course. Students may take one course (3 semester credits) in one week or two courses (6 semester credits) over two weeks, one course each week. Financial aid recipients will use 2007/08 aid information. Tuition payment or confirmation of financial aid is due upon enrollment.
Transportation: Students flying in for IEXL should make arrangements for a round-trip flight to Cedar Rapids. Arrangements for transportation from Cedar Rapids to Fayette can be made through the Eastern Iowa Airport shuttle service at 1-800-725-8460. If you plan to use this service please inquire at the time of registration to see if other passengers will be traveling to Fayette. The cost is reduced significantly for each additional passenger. Rental car services are also available at the airport. Fayette is a small rural community. The UIU campus, community restaurants, grocery and drug stores are within a few blocks walking distance.

Hotel Accommodations: We have reserved a block of rooms at the AmericInn, located on the west edge of Fayette. The AmericInn features an indoor pool, hot tub and dry sauna, game room, guest laundry and continental breakfast. Smoking or non-smoking rooms are available. The hotel is within walking distance of the University. The block of rooms are reserved under "UIU External Degree" at a reduced rate of $65.00 per night with Friday and Saturday rates at $69.90 per night. You may make reservations by calling 1-563-425-0214 (must use this number for the discount). The block of rooms at the special rate will be available until June 1, 2008.
UIU Residence Hall Accommodations: Rooms will also be available this year for IEXL students in our residence halls located on the Fayette Campus. These are in Lee Tower, with a single rate of $130 per week or a double at $90 per week (if available). Rooms will need to be reserved four weeks prior to classes. Students will need to bring bedding, pillow and/or sleeping bag, toiletries, and personal items. The rooms are designed in a suite style setting, with a full kitchen and shared living room. Contact the External Degree office to reserve a UIU residence hall room or to receive additional housing options not mentioned here.
