This scholarship page will assist you, the learner, in identifying scholarships that are available to non-traditional students.

Please continue to check back for updates and changes. There are a lot of scholarships available and we are finding new ones all the time.


AE Scholarship
Through alumni donations here at UIU, there are 18 undergraduate and 3 graduate scholarships are available for Academic Extension students. This includes our center locations and Center for Distance Education.

General Scholarships:

  • Army Emergency Relief (AER) Scholarship Programs
    AER Scholarship Programs has several different scholarships available. Click on the link to see to check out there site.

  • Emergency and Disaster Management Scholarships
    IAEM's Scholarship Program is available to full-time students pursuing degrees in emergency management or related programs.
    Application Deadline: application expected to be posted in January 2010

  • The Fund for Veteran's Education 
    The Fund for Veterans' Education was established to provide scholarships to veterans from all branches of the United States Armed Forces who served in Afghanistan or Iraq since September 11, 2001 and who are now enrolled in college or vocational-technical school.
    Application Deadline: November 3, 2008

  • Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Scholarship
    The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation will award graduate scholarships to help students with exceptional promise and demonstrated financial need reach their full potential through education. To be eligible a candidate must:
    • Be a college senior OR recent graduate (since May 2000) from an accredited college or university in the U.S.
    • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent)
    • Plan to attend graduate school in the fall semester of the year of the scholarship application
    • Be nominated by his or her undergraduate institution

  • Jeannette Rankin Foundation
    The Jeannette Rankin Foundation awards scholarships to women 35 or older and that have been accepted or attending an accredited school.
    Application Deadline: Applications for the 2010 school year will be available starting November 1, 2009.

  • National Sheriff's Association
    The National Sheriff's Association (NSA) awards $1,000 scholarships to those in law enforcement.
    Application Deadline: April 25, 2010.

  • Talbots Women's Scholarship Fund
    Talbots awards scholarships to women determined to get their college degree.
    Application Deadline: January 2, 2010

  • Tylenol Scholarship
    These are scholarships to students pursuing careers in healthcare.
    Application Deadline: check website for details

Major Specific Scholarships:
  • Accounting

    The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is the national professional organization for CPAs in the US. The AICPA supports several scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students interested in careers in business and accounting. Listed below are descriptions of each program. Eligibility criteria and applications forms are available online at http://www.aicpa.org/aec.
    • John L Carey Scholarship
      Ten $5000 scholarships to liberal arts degree holders who are preparing to enter a graduate accounting program
    • AICPA Scholarship for minority accounting students
      Financial awards up to $5000 to undergrad and grad minority accounting students
    • AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship
      Five $2500 scholarships to students pursuing a degree in accounting, finance or information systems
Region Specific Scholarships:
  • Dane County, WI
    • Metropolitan Woman's Club
      The Metropolitan Woman's Club Scholarship awards the amount of $500 for Dane County residents pursuing continuing adult education at a college or another educational institution.

    • Betty Franklin-Hammonds Scholarship
      "The Betty Franklin-Hammonds Scholarship rewards the accomplishments of African-American graduating seniors seeking to further their education beyond high school, with special attention given to those who have faced particular economic and/or social obstacles on their journey to educational advancement. This scholarship is also used to help support adults from low-to-moderate income homes, who are seeking to improve their lives through higher education."

      The Business Forum (TBF) in Madison, WI awards scholarships to women in higher education.
