Online Learning
Upper Iowa University online offers 17 majors in post-secondary degree programs to learners worldwide as well as five certificate programs and three master’s degree programs.
Students in the UIU distance education programs can take advantage of UIU’s unique two-at-a-time curriculum, which offers several eight-week terms each year. You can enroll any time during the year and begin earning your degree during any term. Students can transfer up to 90 hours of undergraduate credit when entering the program. UIU has articulation agreements with many community colleges to facilitate transferring your community college credits to count toward our majors.
Flexible and convenient UIU distance education courses fit into your schedule and you learn at your own pace. About 85 percent of UIU distance education students are employed either part-time or full-time while earning their degrees. Several companies also have educational agreements with UIU through the Corporate Advantage program. Their employees enjoy benefits, including tuition discounts.
UIU offers a tuition discount to military personnel and their family members. We work closely with all services to offer military education programs that provide the flexibility needed by today’s military personnel.
All Upper Iowa students benefit from our seamless approach to offering education through a variety of modalities. Students can study on a traditional campus, at one of our educational centers, online or through independent study. You can take courses through any of our modalities without losing credits and graduate with a single UIU transcript.
Would you be a successful online student? Online courses offer students opportunities to learn in new ways and makes learning available to many who cannot attend a traditional class. However, online courses are not for everybody, just as not every student is successful in traditional college classes. To be successful, an online student should be able to:
- Practice time management
- Write well
- Think critically
- Participate actively
- Have access to a computer and a modem
