Joe Monaco

Joe Monaco (`80) President UIUGRAD@aol.com

For 27 years, Joe Monaco has been a strong supporter of Upper Iowa University and its goals. He is a 1980 External Degree graduate as well as being the founder of the Omega Chi Delta Fraternity. He served as the fraternity’s president for many years. His experience as head of Army Recruiting helped prepare him for the role of East Coast admissions representative for UIU. His most recent endeavors have included working as a town manager for three communities in New Jersey as well as working with church groups assisting the poor and homeless. For many years, he has encouraged UIU graduates to become more involved with their alma mater. "As a group we can do so much for UIU."

Wendell Bandy
 

Wendell Bandy (`96) Vice President

As well as being a 1996 Fort Polk Center graduate majoring in human services, Wendell Bandy has a long (25+ years) history of success leading and working in organizations with various missions. He is currently the founder and executive director of the Tennessee Savers Coalition. Wendell places great value and importance in the goals supported by UIU and the Alumni Association. "I desire to see Upper Iowa University, current students, and alumni benefit from an Alumni Association that grows into a more effective and strongly supported organization."

Sabrina Kuek
 

Sabrina Kuek (`06) Secretary

As a 2006 Singapore Center graduate in management and marketing, Sabrina Kuek has supported the goals of UIU and the Alumni Association internationally. She is currently employed as a regional project manager. Sabrina looks forward to expanding her responsibilities as secretary to include assisting with alumni gatherings and event planning. She recognizes the importance that an alumni association can have and plans to assist in student recruitment in Singapore.

Pam Whitmore
 

Pam Whitmore (`65) Residential University Director

After 35 years of teaching in elementary schools, Pam Whitmore retired in 2000 and became an assistant professor of education, teaching education and diversity classes at the Fayette Campus for four years. Although now retired, Pam remains active supervising student teachers and field experience students for the Fayette Campus as well as the Waterloo and Des Moines Centers. She continues to be involved with campus and community activities and enjoys her new role with the Alumni Association. Pam strongly believes we need to keep traditions alive, preserve the legacies of UIU alumni, and continue to support the goals of UIU.

Sarah Anderson-DeLaria
 

Sarah Anderson-DeLaria (`06) North Central Region Director

As a 2006 Des Moines Center graduate in criminal justice, Sarah Anderson-DeLaria has accepted the position of North Central Region Director while attending law school. Sarah has a strong commitment to Upper Iowa University and greatly appreciates the opportunities that UIU have given her and other alumni. She recognizes the value UIU brings to both traditional and non-traditional students as they seek to achieve their own professional goals. "UIU has given me more than an education; it has given me purpose and direction as well as skills and confidence."

Stuart "Stu" Dunkel
 

Stuart "Stu" Dunkel (`64) South Central Region Director

After achieving a double major in business administration and sociology in 1964 at the Fayette Campus, Stu Dunkel completed his MBA at the University of Arkansas in 1966. After working in the management field for over 32 years, Stu has since retired but has pledged his continued support to Upper Iowa University and the Alumni Association. He has been part of UIU’s Team Peacock support crew during RAGBRAI in 2006 and 2007. He has served on occupational and community nonprofit commissions and boards, both as an officer and a member. Stu has great interest in both academic and athletic programs, donating to and attending events when held in his geographic area. He greatly enjoys his role as South Central Region Director and has become an enthusiastic representative of Upper Iowa University and the Alumni Association.

Siew Wen Teh "Sharon"
 

Siew Wen Teh "Sharon" (`03) International Director

Sharon is a 2003 marketing and management information systems graduate from the Fayette Campus. She was awarded the honor of being 2003 International Student of the Year. She reactivated and served as president for the International Student Club in 2002. Having worked in advertising and promotions, she made the decision to start her own company. Looking to the future, she would like to lead her company into being a private limited company. Sharon has embraced the opportunity to assist the UIU Alumni Association as International Director.

Christine Barker
 

Christine Barker (`06) Online Director

As a 2006 online graduate majoring in marketing, Christine Barker recognizes the importance that Upper Iowa University’s Online Program has for both traditional and non-traditional students. Her personal experience with the online program has prepared her for the role of Online Director. She strongly believes that everyone should give back to their college in some way.

Mary Harken
 

Mary Harken (`99) External Degree Director

Mary Harken achieved her bachelor of science degree in 1999 at the Des Moines Center and later achieved her MBA in 2003 through our Online Program. She is currently the Integrated Communications Director with Barclay Communications. Mary is an advocate of education and is passionate about spreading that message. The flexible way that UIU allowed her to further her education, while also working full time, helped her grow in her career. She enthusiastically represents Upper Iowa University as the External Degree Director for the Alumni Association.
