FAYETTE, Iowa (April 24, 2008)-Upper Iowa University's commencement exercises will be held Saturday, May 10, in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium on the Fayette campus. Over 1,200 students from Upper Iowa's Fayette campus, nationwide center locations, online and independent study programs will be honored.
Morning commencement exercises begin at 10 a.m. for the divisions of business, public administration, and science and mathematics. Afternoon exercises begin at 2:00 p.m. for the divisions of education and liberal arts. Approximately 570 students will participate in the formal ceremonies, with 63 students receiving Master of Business or Public Administration degrees.
"Upper Iowa University continues to be a leader in preparing students for success in today's globally competitive environment," said UIU President Dr. Alan Walker. "We are proud that our graduates have had an education from an institution that is nationally ranked in the top 10% for enhancing student learning and that they will be able to pursue their personal and professional lives with some of the lowest levels of debt among our peer institutions."
Keynote speaker will be Dr. Brian Flora, senior diplomat in residence at the University of Illinois in Chicago where he represents the State Department and recruits for the Foreign Service in the upper Midwest. Flora has served as Consul General in Bern and Berlin, as well as Chief of the Embassy's Political Section in Bonn and Ottawa. On many occasions, Flora has served as the Deputy Chief of Mission and Charge d' Affaires (the acting ambassador at the Embassy), including a five-month stint in Bern. He graduated from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts in 1968, and received a Doctorate in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
Morning refreshments and a brunch buffet will be available for graduates and their families for purchase in the Garbee Hall Cafeteria.
