FAYETTE, Iowa (September 18, 2008) -The Upper Iowa University homecoming theme is "Party with Peacock Pride" and will be celebrated Friday and Saturday, Oct. 3 - 4.
Homecoming kicks off Friday with the 3rd Annual PHAB (Peacock Homecoming Alumni Bash) Fest, a two-person best shot golf tournament at Big Rock Country Club. Open to all alumni, the golf tournament will begin at noon and includes food and prizes. Pre-registration is requested.
The Hall of Fame Banquet begins at 7p.m. Friday (social hour at 6 p.m.) in Garbee Hall, followed by the traditional Bonfire/Pep Rally behind the Rec Center at 9:15 p.m. Friday's activities will be topped off with a fireworks display, viewable from the bonfire.
The Homecoming parade is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday and marches through downtown Fayette. Former UIU Athletic Director Gil Cloud and wife, Vicki, will serve as grand marshals.
Following the parade, the Peacocks will take on Wayne State in Eischeid Stadium at 1 p.m. The game will be preceded by a Tailgate Picnic at the north end of the football field from 11:30 a.m.- 2 p.m. and will end with a Goal Post Party at the same location beginning at 3 p.m.
Other activities on campus homecoming weekend include an all-alumni art show and reunion in the Lois-Bing Davis gallery, an alumni awards banquet, a continental breakfast, and UIU apparel available at the Peacock Connection store. UIU's Alumni House located on Union Street will be open both days for alumni registration and information, Friday (8 a.m.-5 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m.-1 p.m.).
