FAYETTE, Iowa (September 4, 2008)-Md. Manzoor Murshed, associate professor of management information systems at Upper Iowa University, spent his summer at Harvard University attending summer school. The session ran from June 23 to Aug. 15.
According to Murshed, Harvard introduced its academic summer session in 1871, making it the oldest program of this kind in the United States. Murshed took Communication Protocols and Internet Architectures for full credit, graduate-level courses in computer science related to his current research area of computer security and computer forensic.
Murshed said these classes gave him in-depth knowledge and information about current trends and research from a leading university. In addition to classes, he also participated in many planned social gatherings and sightseeing activities in the Cambridge area.
"As a visiting student at Harvard, I joined a vibrant community of motivated students and distinguished faculty," said Murshed. "The session provided a unique opportunity for intellectual study, to earn academic credit, and explore Harvard University."
This is the second year that Murshed has attended Harvard's summer school, part of which was paid for by the Upper Iowa University summer faculty stipend. "I strongly believe that this productive and rewarding experience will reflect in my teaching style and methods at Upper Iowa University," said Murshed. "I am very grateful to the University for helping provide me with this unique experience."
