Fayette (March 25, 2008) - Twelve members of the Upper Iowa University (UIU) Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) organization once again made their annual trip to the State Leadership Conference (SLC), where they walked away with awards in individual, team and chapter events. This year's conference was held March 7 and 8 on the University of Northern Iowa campus in Cedar Falls.
Upper Iowa University brought home three top chapter awards, including Iowa Chapter of the Year, Event Sponsorship,
and Local Chapter Annual Business Report (written by Jac Wilson and Jessica Lang).
UIU students competed against PBL representatives from University of Northern Iowa, University of Iowa, Iowa State University, Grandview College, Ashford University, Buena Vista University and Des Moines Area Community College. Winners at the state level are eligible to compete at the 2008 National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia this coming June.
Upper Iowa University SLC individual award winners include:
1st Place - Dani Dreeszen (Marketing Analysis & Decision Making), Laura Durance (Future Business Executive and Job Interview), Steven Kessler (Justice Administration), Breina Patterson (Sales Presentation), Shannon Stone (Future Business Teacher).
2nd Place - Dan Ellefson (Computer Applications), Thomas Henning (Sales Presentation), Jen Holthaus (Marketing Analysis & Decision Making), Shane Kafka (Contemporary Sports Issues and Sports Management & Marketing), Breina Patterson (Help Desk), Shannon Stone (Accounting Principles).
3rd Place - Dan Ellefson (Statistical Analysis), Kellie Henniges (Business Communications and Accounting Analysis & Decision Making), Jen Holthaus (Computer Concepts).
4th Place - Sam Hansel (Public Speaking and Word Processing), Thomas Henning (Marketing Analysis & Decision Making), Steven Kessler (Business Law), Jessica Lang (Sports Management & Marketing), Breina Patterson (Computer Concepts).
5th Place - Laura Durance (Public Speaking), Kellie Henniges (Financial Concepts), Steven Kessler (Future Business Executive), Jessica Lang (Contemporary Sports Issues).

"I'm very proud of these students and the results they achieved," said Lynn Isvik, associate professor of business\division chair and chapter advisor. "The chapter has grown significantly over the last several years, which reflects increased student interest in leadership activities." Isvik added, "This amount of involvement at the state level promises even greater success for the chapter in the future."
Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc. (FBLA-PBL) is a nonprofit organization that prepares students for careers in business and business education.
