FAYETTE, IOWA (April 16, 2007) – On Monday, April 16, nineteen students were inducted into the Upper Iowa University chapter of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society. The formal ceremony was held in the Upper Iowa Room in Garbee Hall on the Fayette campus, with family, friends, faculty and staff in attendance.
Eligible students must be formally invited to become members of the institutional chapter, based on the criteria that they be either juniors or seniors and ranked academically in the top ten percent of their respective class.
The 2007 UIU chapter of Alpha Chi inductees include the following: Kami D. Appelt, Marysville, Calif.; Kimberly R. Decker, Dyersville, Iowa; Mandi Drees, Carroll, Iowa; Deborah L. Estrem, Waterloo, Iowa; Jamie L. Gibbs, Manchester, Iowa; Jessica Gress, Waterloo; Amanda Harkrader, Elkader, Iowa; Amanda Hayward, Maquoketa, Iowa; Sasha Heiken, Winnebago, Ill.; Yohei Hikita, Kawasaki, Japan; Jennifer Justice, Postville, Iowa; Katie Kilburg, Bellevue, Iowa; Jennifer Lee, Kenosha, Wisc.; Brandon Nitcher, Iowa City, Iowa; Chelsea E. He went on to say, “The academic achievement of these students builds and adds value to the integrity and academic reputation of our institution, benefiting students who have come before them and those students who will follow.”
Alpha Chi is a coeducational academic honor society. Since 1922, its purpose has been to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students and to honor those who receive such distinction. Alpha Chi has some 300 chapters nationwide, including Puerto Rico, and inducts more than 11,000 members annually. It is distinctive in that it involves members in all aspects of its operation, including chapter officer leadership, student representation on the National Council, local chapter event planning, and the presentation of scholarly programs at regional and national conventions.
