» Peacocks for Progress receives $1,000 grant

FAYETTE, IOWA (April 1, 2009) -Upper Iowa University Peacocks for Progress organization was the recent recipient of a $1,000 grant from the Jenzabar Foundation's 2008 Student Leadership Awards program.

          Daryl Grove, executive director of student leadership at Upper Iowa, was responsible for writing the grant. He also founded Peacocks for Progress, an on campus student organization that promotes community service, volunteerism and service learning. Grove intends to use the funds toward the purchase of a small utility vehicle.

          "Peacocks for Progress is an ongoing effort," explained Grove. "We do service projects for the local community throughout the year that includes raking, painting, shoveling snow; and a small utility vehicle that students can operate to haul equipment is very much needed to make the group more mobile."

          Grove added, "Although the Jenzabar award of $1,000 is not quite enough to make an outright purchase, we are extremely grateful the Jenzabar Foundation has honored Upper Iowa with this Student Leadership Award. The student clubs and organizations are committed to service here, and it is nice to have their work recognized." Grove said they will be doing additional fundraisers to raise the rest of the money for the utility vehicle.
