In addition to his signature, Manning, who in February led th
e New York Giants to an upset Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots, wrote "Go Peacocks!" on the program cover. Manning was also voted Super Bowl MVP.
Bids on the framed program and UIU ad will be taken for ten days, beginning Wednesday, July 16. A link on UIU's homepage at www.uiu.edu will take bidders directly to e-Bay's site to place a bid. The winning bidder will also receive a certificate of authenticity.
The autographed package is part of UIU's annual Team Peacock fundraising effort. Formed four years ago by UIU President Alan Walker, Team Peacock is comprised of nearly 30 alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends who participate in RAGBRAI as a way to raise money for student scholarships and increase awareness of the institution and its programs. The group has raised over $127,000. This year's goal is $100,000.
"We are hoping the signature will bring a sizeable sum for student scholarships," said Walker. "And the successful bidder will not only get a piece of Super Bowl history but Upper Iowa history as well." This was Eli Manning's first Super Bowl win and Upper Iowa's first Super Bowl ad.
