For more information regarding the SEVIS fee, please visit the Student and Exchange Visitor Program website.
Step 7: Apply for a Visa
Each student should review the visa requirements and appointment process for the U.S. embassy or consulate that is located closest to them as each embassy can have slightly different requirements for the same visa. For the basic list of requirements for F-1 and J-1 visa, please visit the U.S. State Department's website.
Other Important Information
All international students (F-1 and J-1 students) at UIU are required to enroll in the UIU health insurance plan. UIU does not accept other insurance plans and will not waive the university health coverage.
- International Student Orientation & Orientation Fee
All international students are required to participate on the international student orientation. Furthermore, UIU has a mandatory $100 orientation fee which is automatically billed to the student's account.
When entering the U.S., students should carry their immigration documents and acceptance packet in a carry-on bag such as a purse or book bag for easy access when going through immigration.
NOTE: It is best to ensure that 3 or more hours are available before the departure time of the connecting flight in case Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), who reviews immigration documents for all individuals entering the U.S., may require additional review of immigration paperwork.
