Congratulations once again in your admission to Upper Iowa University! Now that you have been admitted, you need to follow the next steps in order to confirm your seat:
Step 1: Pay the SEVIS Fee
The SEVIS fee is required by the U.S. government as a means to pay for the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). SEVIS maintains electronic records on all F-1 and J-1 visitors to the U.S.
For more information regarding the SEVIS fee, please visit the Student and Exchange Visitor Program website.
Step 2: Apply for a Visa
Each student should review the visa requirements and appointment process for the U.S. embassy or consulate that is located closest to them as each embassy can have slightly different requirements for the same visa. For the basic list of requirements for F-1 and J-1 visa, please visit the U.S. State Department's website.
Step 3: Submit the Confirmation of Enrollment Form
Step 4: Submit the following housing documents:
The housing application, housing contract, and housing deposit must be submitted by
31 July. Any submissions of the housing forms after 31 July will be reviewed on a first-come first-serve basis and preferences cannot be guaranteed.
Please see orientation schedule.
Step 5: Submit the following medical documents:
All UIU students must submit the immunization record and medical history form.
Step 6: Complete the Pick-up/Arrival Form
If you would like the CIE to arrange transportation from Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) to UIU, fill out the Pick-up/Arrival Form. The Pick-up/Arrival Form must be submitted by August to guarantee transportation.
Step 7: Submit final original transcripts/mark sheets
You must submit a final original copy of your transcripts/mark sheets showing you have completed your secondary or university level education.
Other Important Information
All international students (F-1 and J-1 students) at UIU are required to enroll in the UIU health insurance plan. UIU does not accept other insurance plans and will not waive the university health coverage.
- International Student Orientation & Orientation Fee
All international students are required to participate on the international student orientation. UIU has a mandatory $100 orientation fee which is automatically billed to the student's account.
When entering the U.S., students should carry their immigration documents and acceptance packet in a carry-on bag such as a purse or book bag for easy access when going through immigration.
NOTE: It is best to ensure that 3 or more hours are available before the departure time of the connecting flight in case Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), who reviews immigration documents for all individuals entering the U.S., may require additional review of immigration paperwork.
- Tuberculosis (TB) Testing
As we are looking forward to your arrival to Upper Iowa University (UIU) very soon, we have to inform you of a new important health requirement. As you might know, tuberculosis (TB) is a serious illness that is caused by bacteria that attacks lungs, and potentially kidney, spine, and brain. If not treated properly, this illness can be fatal. Thus, U.S. colleges and universities screen and test all new international students. You may find more information here http://www.acha.org/Publications/docs/ACHA_Tuberculosis_Screening_April2014.pdf
TB testing is mandatory for all new international students. This will be done thru a blood draw, removal a small amount of blood through your vein (venipuncture). This mandatory procedure will take place on the first Wednesday of classes in the Fall semester. The cost of $86 will be charged to your university bill.
