Counseling Service

It is the mission of the Director of Counseling to promote the personal development, psychological well-being of all students and to provide an environment that is conducive to growth and learning.

This service provides individual and group counseling sessions. Information shared in group or individual counseling sessions is confidential and is protected to the full extent of the law. The information will not be disclosed to anyone outside the center without your written permission, except when it is necessary to protect you or someone else from imminent danger.

Career Development

Located in the lower level of Garbee Hall Complex, this service is available to you as a student and later as a graduate. You are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the services offered beginning early your first year.

Career development can offer you information on a variety of potential careers and will work with your academic advisor to assist you in exploring academic majors that prepare you for your future career.

The goal of career development is to help you plan a career based on your  interests, values and abilities, and the realities of current employment trends. This service provides one-on-one assistance with career exploration and internship/job searching. 

A special feature of Career Development is the Career Resource Library. This area has information about careers, current job and internship opportunities and graduate school information. As well as an easy-to-use computerized career guidance system, resume/cover letter writing center and a wide variety of other resources.

Furthermore, staff members assist students with writing resume and cover letters, completing job and graduate school applications and offer strategies that point students in the direction of their personal and vocational goals.

Academic Support Center

The goal of the Academic Support Center (ASC) is to assist all students in earning a degree from Upper Iowa University. The ASC provides a variety of free programs and services including aTutor Center and a Supplemental Instruction (SI) program.

The tutor center is located on the second floor of the Henderson-Wilder Library. This consists of peer and professional tutors offering course-specific support in most subject areas. Tutor Hours: Monday-Thursday 9:00am-5:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm; Friday 9:00am-3:00pm.

Supplemental Instruction teaches sessions on how-to learn with what-to-learn. Students who attend a SI session discover appropriate study stretegies as they review course content.

Recreation Center

This state-of-the art facility has a broad range of amenities with accommodating operational hours for students, faculty, staff and community members.

The 40,000 sq. ft. facility includes three courts, two tracks, a fitness center, a multi-purpose turf room, and locker/shower facilities. The fitness center is equipped with 11 cardiovascular pieces, 18 weight-training machines, free weights and dumb bells.
