The purpose of a human services major is to prepare a student to understand the socioeconomic, psychological and political foundations of a multicultural society and to utilize that knowledge to identify needs and to coordinate and provide appropriate social services. The human services program is offered to those students who intend to pursue careers in the human services area after graduation. It also provides excellent preparation for those wishing to continue their education in graduate school. The human services major consists of 36 semester credits, with at least 18 credits in upper division coursework. (For all students at Illinois Centers 24 or more upper division credits must be completed in the major.) In addition, students must complete the general education core, along with additional elective credits.
