In November, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation team conducted a site visit and read a summary report. At that time, UIU's nursing education program had met all standards and no compliance issues were cited. The Upper Iowa Nursing Program learned on April 14, 2008 that the CCNE has granted its RN-BSN Program full accreditation.
"We are thrilled to have achieved this exceptional status for our nursing education program," said Dr. Wimmer Johnson. "However, none of this would have been possible without phenomenal community support." She says the clinical experiences provided by the Winneshiek, Manchester, and Sumner hospitals, Sartori Hospital in Waterloo, Buchanan County Health Center, Postville Community Hospital, and the generosity of numerous donors have added to its success.

Upper Iowa University’s RN-BSN program is preparing for a site visit November 14-16, 2007 by a team from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Since the opening enrollment of the RN-BSN program in January 2007, nursing faculty and staff have been engaged in the processes of accreditation and self-study.
Public comments of Upper Iowa University’s RN-BSN program may be submitted to the CCNE by writing to:
Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education
One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 530
Washington, DC 20036-1120
Comments will be received by the CCNE through Saturday, October 13, 2007, and should pertain to the RN-BSN program’s qualifications for accreditation status.
On Friday, August 31, 2007, Upper Iowa University’s Des Moines Center, located in West Des Moines, welcomed fifteen RN-BSN students to the first day of classes. The RN-BSN program began at the Fayette campus in January, 2007.
Nursing classes are held at the Des Moines Center’s online building, in a dedicated classroom/lab approximately biweekly. The rest of the coursework is completed through an online learning management system (LMS). Training for the LMS is offered on the first day of classes. Students are able to complete general education requirements by taking online UIU classes, or by enrolling in Center classes.
Faculty for the Des Moines Center RN-BSN program currently remains consistent with that of the Fayette campus program. Transcript evaluations and face-to-face advising appointments are available to Center students as well as to Fayette campus students.
For more information regarding the RN-BSN program at the Des Moines Center, email nursing@uiu.edu.
Upper Iowa University RN-BSN students, faculty, and staff enjoy the comforts of newly renovated classroom/lab and offices after a greatly anticipated move to Edgar Fine Arts last August.
The nursing lab is furnished with exam tables donated from Lon Butikofer, CEO of Regional Medical Center in Manchester. Jerry MacCauley’s significant contribution provided many of the other tools available to nursing students, including a beam scale, laptops, a baby scale, exam models, eye exam cabinet, sphygmomanometers, etc.
On August 29th, the number of Fayette campus nursing students jumped from nine to twenty-four, as thirteen new students started the first day of classes with orientation in Edgar, Room #207. Nearly forty students pursue their BSN degrees at both the Fayette campus and Des Moines Center, after the first nine months of the program’s operation. Nursing faculty anticipate the first graduating class of the RN-BSN program in May 2008.
