Communications & Media Relations
Heaton is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Upper Iowa’s OCM, reporting directly to the Chief Marketing Officer. With five directors reporting to her, she oversees the functions of media relations and crisis management, the website and e-communications, institutional publication development and printing, advertising, graphic arts and the use of other communications media to accurately reflect the mission of the University.

Heaton comes to UIU from Culver-Stockton College, where she served as director of communications since 2006. She brings over 25 years experience as a communications/PR professional, working for a variety of corporate and non-profit organizations in the St. Louis area, including the Catholic Health Association of the United States, McDonnell-Douglas, Boeing, and Maritz. She began her career as a newspaper journalist and has received numerous writing and communications awards from a variety of professional organizations.
Heaton earned a bachelor's degree in English and journalism with honors at the University of Iowa.
