FAYETTE, Iowa (August 11, 2010) — The new academic year at Upper Iowa University begins officially Monday, August 23, with the start of classes; but the first of the student athletes are already arriving to begin fall practice.
Orientation days for new athletes started August 11 and will continue with the arrival of more students involved in fall athletics. About 210 student athletes are expected.
The fall athletic season starts with men’s and women’s soccer at Jamestown, ND, on September 2; volleyball at the St. Leo tournament in Florida September 3 and 4; and football at Texas A&M, Commerce, on September 4. Both soccer teams will play non-conference exhibition matches on August 23 at Fayette. The home opener for football is September 11 against the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and the first home match for volleyball is against Southwest Minnesota State on September 14.
