Upper Iowa University to host Saturday art program for children
Fayette area children are once again invited to participate in Saturday art classes at Upper Iowa University, beginning January 15.
FAYETTE, Iowa (December 22, 2010) — The Upper Iowa University Art Department will once again host its popular Saturday art program for Fayette County children, starting January 15.
The art program is open to all Fayette County children in grades 1 through 6. Four sessions will meet January 15, 22, 29 and February 5. Classes will be offered in two sections based on grade level. All sections will meet from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Edgar Fine Arts Building on the Upper Iowa University campus.
“Students will work with a variety of materials, including paint and clay,” said John Siblik, UIU associate professor of art and coordinator of the Saturday art classes. “This is our fourth year of offering this program, and it’s a great opportunity for children to come in and have an innovative art experience with our art education students who are studying to be teachers. Our UIU students prepare and teach the lessons, and it’s a terrific experience for them and for children from the area.”
Registration deadline is January 12. There is a $10 registration fee. Participants are encouraged to wear old clothes or art shirts. For more information or to register, call Siblik at 563-425-5241 or siblikj@uiu.edu.
