1,200 graduate from Upper Iowa University on Saturday, May 8
FAYETTE, Iowa (May 5, 2010) – Some 1,200 students will graduate from Upper Iowa University on Saturday, May 8, in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium on the UIU home campus in Fayette. Graduates will come from around the United States and include students who earned their degrees at UIU’s 15 education centers or through its online and independent study courses.
Of the more than 560 students who will be on hand to receive their diploma, about 500 have earned bachelor’s degrees in business, education, liberal arts, or math and science. Another 60 will receive master’s degrees. Three ceremonies will be held Saturday at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Commencement speaker for all three ceremonies is Tom M. Conley, president and CEO of The Conley Group, Des Moines, Iowa, which provides uniformed and plainclothes security services as well as investigative services. Conley is a three-time alumnus of Upper Iowa University, earning undergraduate degrees in business management and psychology as well as a master’s degree in business leadership.
“Commencement is the pinnacle of our academic year at Upper Iowa University. It is the culmination of hard work and the beginning of their future for our students, and it is the embodiment of our mission as an institution of higher education,” said UIU President Alan G. Walker. “We look forward to this day with great anticipation.”
