Upper Iowa University hosts eastern Iowa college fair
FAYETTE, Iowa (September 22, 2010) — Upper Iowa University (UIU) hosted the Eastern Iowa College Fair on the Fayette campus on Monday, September 20. UIU is the first college to kick off the 2010-11 college fair season, which typically runs September through November.
A total of 58 colleges and universities participated, sending representatives and setting up tables with information about their admissions requirements, available academic majors, financial aid, sports, and extracurricular activities.
“At this year’s fair, we had more schools and students attend than in previous years, which is very exciting,” said Renee Lape, UIU’s associate director of admissions for operations. “Today’s high school student is very involved in the college-search process, which is apparent from the amount of information they gather and the astute questions they ask.”
Twelve area high schools that brought students to the fair included Central Elkader, Clayton Ridge, Ed-Co, MFL, MFL- NICC upward bound, NICC upward bound, North Fayette, Oelwein, Starmont, Wapsie Valley, West Central, and Valley.
This year, the Upper Iowa University admissions staff will travel to approximately 60 college fairs throughout Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois, as well as visit high schools in those states.
