Fall term nears at Upper Iowa University
The return of student athletes is among the first signs of the approaching fall term at Upper Iowa University. The first day of classes is August 22. The football team will play its first home game on the new turf at Eischeid Stadium on September 3.
FAYETTE, Iowa (August 10, 2011) - Peacock student athletes are returning to campus in Fayette, a sure sign that the new academic year is about to start at Upper Iowa University. The first day of the 2011-12 academic year is August 22 at the Fayette campus and August 29 at other UIU locations.
Members of the football, soccer and volleyball teams return this week for orientation and practice, with international students arriving this weekend.
UIU will host a Peacock Experience for first-year students at the Fayette campus August 19-21, featuring a Matriculation Convocation at 4:30 p.m. Friday, August 19, and a weekend of orientation and socializing opportunities. All students return by Sunday, August 21, with an all-campus picnic at 5 p.m. Sunday.
UIU students will enjoy several changes when they return. The main campus in Fayette is in the midst of a renovation of the Eischeid Football Stadium, which has a new turf playing surface on Pattison Field, and further construction planned to begin in mid-October. The first home game is September 3. The new Student Center is fully operational, with a grand opening and ribbon-cutting scheduled for September 16. In addition, UIU Center students in Des Moines will be attending classes in their new location at 5000 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines.
