Nunez Community College and Upper Iowa University renew partnership to help students continue college education
Vicki Melton, UIU Alexandria Center director, Wayne Converse, UIU executive director South Central Region, Chancellor Dr. Thomas Warner of Nunez Community College, and Dr. Steve Berrien, NCC vice chancellor for academic and student affairs, sign an articulation agreement that will simplify the process for NCC students who want to continue their education at Upper Iowa University.
FAYETTE, Iowa (August 5, 2011) —Nunez Community College and Upper Iowa University have reaffirmed a partnership to provide a course-by-course articulation agreement that allows for a seamless transfer process for learners at Nunez Community College who desire to further their education with Upper Iowa University. The original partnership was signed in 2003.
Upper Iowa University has a location for teaching courses at Jackson Barracks in New Orleans.
“We consider UIU to be the neighborhood four-year university for St Bernard Parish and Chalmette, and this partnership further solidifies our commitment to the Parish and to Nunez students,” said Wayne Converse, executive director of Upper Iowa University’s South Central Region. “This partnership is not only important for the two institutions, but more importantly, for our students.”
Upper Iowa University has been offering classes in New Orleans at Jackson Barracks since 1999. On-site classes are taught in the evenings and are offered in eight-week terms. After Hurricane Katrina, UIU moved its primary center location to Alexandria but still teaches classes at Jackson Barracks. For more information, visit www.uiu.edu/neworleans.
“This works well for students who may have a full-time job and still want to complete their college degree,” explained Vicki Melton, center director.
Nunez Community College was founded in 1992 and offers an accredited general education and occupational technologies curriculum that blends the arts, sciences, and humanities leading to associate degrees, certificates, and workforce development. For more information about NCC, visit www.nunez.edu.
