Wisconsin awards 'Green Professional' designation to Upper Iowa University- Madison Center
FAYETTE, Iowa (October 5 2011) - The Upper Iowa University- Madison Center has recently been awarded the second tier designation- -- "Green Professional" -- from Wisconsin's Green Masters Program after scoring more than 100 points through the Green Masters Certification process. There are three tiers of designation, with the highest level (Tier 3) being the "Green Masters" designation.
"The Green Masters Program is a statewide (Wisconsin) designation program... It is relatively new, and growing in importance with numerous employers statewide who desire to be 'green' or sustainable in their operations," said Alan Capelle, UIU-Madison Center director.
The UIU Madison Center has taken significant steps toward becoming more 'green' in its operations by recycling, changing to more energy-efficient lighting, reducing water usage, and determining its carbon footprint in order to reduce it, Capelle added.
Wisconsin's Green Masters Program is coordinated by the University of Wisconsin, Madison and the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council and is open to any Wisconsin business.
"This designation recognizes the work being done at the Madison Center to achieve a sustainable level of 'green' business operations," Capelle said.
He added that the Madison Center's sustainability efforts also include an academic component, with a biology course that examines the importance for businesses to pursue sustainability. He said the course gives students the opportunity to visit several "green" businesses while studying ways to transform a business into a "green" enterprise.
