Upper Iowa University names Oppenlander associate vice president

FAYETTE, Iowa (October 12, 2011) – Upper Iowa University has named Fritz Oppenlander to the position of associate vice president of Academic Extension. Oppenlander, who was most recently executive director of the UIU North Central Region, joined the University as an adjunct instructor in 2002 and has served as director of both the Elkhorn, Wis., and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, centers. UIU Academic Extension includes 16 education centers in the United States as well as the Center for Distance Education.
"Fritz has a wealth of business and university experience, but more importantly, he is an outstanding leader who continually sets the highest standards for others to emulate," said William Duffy, senior vice president for Academic Extension. "We are pleased that this new position allows Fritz to use his leadership skills to further enhance academic quality, student services and operational policies that will ultimately benefit our students, the university and the communities our graduates serve."
Oppenlander earned his bachelor's degree in marketing from Northern Illinois University and an executive master of business administration from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. Prior to joining UIU, Oppenlander pursued a 30-year business career "that covered organizations from private equity to Fortune 500." His positions ranged from director of marketing to chief information officer and executive vice president of operations, including international operations.
"I tend to see each day as a new opportunity to do at least one thing better than the day before," Oppenlander said.
