Upper Iowa University to offer summer day camps July 9-20
FAYETTE, Iowa (April 30, 2012) – Upper Iowa University is accepting registrations for two weeks of summer day camps on a variety of educational topics July 9-20.
The camps are organized by age groups, featuring a different educational focus each day. The first week offers five days of camp designed for students entering grades 7 through 12 next fall. The camp offers Art and Leadership Day, Technology Day, Dino Day, Sports Day, and Outdoor Adventure Day. The second week of camps is offered on a four-day cycle for students entering grades 1 through 6 next fall with Technology Day, Sports Day, Dino Day and Outdoor Adventure Day.
"We have designed the Peacocks Summer Camp to be an active learning adventure for all students," said Cody Jones, UIU assistant director of residence life and civic engagement. "Participants will receive instruction from UIU professors, student professionals and experts in their field from the upper Midwest area. This unique opportunity will engage students with interesting content while challenging them to explore new ideas -- from learning how to shoot with a bow and arrow from a member of the Iowa Archery Association Hall of Fame to learning from a UIU professor how to calculate whether a dinosaur could have caught and eaten you."
Jones, who organized the camps, said the project builds on the success UIU has had offering Saturday art classes each winter. "Youth from the community have had a great time in art classes, often returning year after year," Jones said. "We look forward to the same success with this program."
Participants may sign up for a single day session or the full week of activities, including lunch. There is no additional charge for before- and/or after-care. Some scholarships are available.
