UIU-Prairie du Chien Center
embarks on 25th year
FAYETTE, Iowa (November 9, 2012) – Upper Iowa University's education center in Prairie du Chien will celebrate its 25th year in 2013 of providing quality, affordable education in southwest Wisconsin and northeast Iowa. Its proximity to the residential Fayette, Iowa, campus has enhanced learning opportunities for UIU-Prairie du Chien Center students, with many full-time Fayette campus faculty members also teaching at the Center. The UIU center collaborates with the Prairie du Chien School District to hold classes on-site.
The UIU center opened its doors in 1988, and currently offers courses to nearly 140 students in Prairie du Chien and LaCrosse. Courses are taught by both full-time UIU faculty members and adjunct faculty who draw on their practical experiences in the field. Courses are offered during six eight-week terms.
"With our center, Upper Iowa has the opportunity to bring education to a rural community area with on-site classes, online program and independent study courses," said Peg Baxter, UIU-Prairie du Chien Center director. "We routinely work with professionals whose Upper Iowa degree has allowed them to excel in the workplace and helped them attain their goals."
Currently, the center offers two associate degrees, as well as several majors in business- and social science-related areas leading to completion of a bachelor of science degree. Due to its extensive online program, which includes three master's degrees, and independent study programs, Upper Iowa also offers students the opportunity to blend distance learning with in-classroom courses. Local advisors assist students as they make degree progress and also help them look for financial aid options.
The Upper Iowa University-Prairie du Chien Center can be reached at 608-326-4292, or via email at prairie@uiu.edu. The center will conduct an open house Thursday, December 13, from 3:00-6:00 p.m.
