FAYETTE, Iowa (October 1, 2012) – Upper Iowa University students in the 3-D foundations class will work together in small groups to create large-scale inflatable sculptures on the Fayette campus tomorrow Tuesday, October 2, from 2:20-3:30 p.m. in the oval near the Edgar Fine Arts Hall.
"The challenge is to create three dimensional, large-scale, inflatable sculptures using plastic sheeting and packing tape," said Elissa Wenthe, UIU assistant professor of art.
"This class is not only a great opportunity for students to engage in active learning, but also to break down and interpret the creative thinking process through fabrication and production of large scale inflatable forms," said John Siblik, associate professor of art. "Additionally, students are working together with classmates from around the world to solve challenging structural and aesthetic problems in a collaborative way."
Students from the class also have a special showing on display at UIU's Henderson-Wilder Library. They include Batsaikha Battur, Gijs Jakob Bedet, Andres Felipe Cuesta, Angela Marina Di Mauro Guzman, Paul Elie Dupeyrat, Brody Hubbell, Juan Sebastian Nino Aguirre, Joslyn Oneal, Wendy Perry, Elizabeth Roneker, Jennah Smith, Bayar Sodov, Sharraden Turpin, Luis Vivas Leoncedis, and Cody Witkiewicz.
