Upper Iowa University Wausau Center celebrates 20th anniversary
FAYETTE, Iowa (October 31, 2012) – The Upper Iowa University Center in Wausau, Wis., is celebrating 20 years of providing educational opportunities in the northern and central portions of the state. The Wausau Center is one of five Upper Iowa locations in the state of Wisconsin, and was one of three off-campus U.S. education centers opened by Upper Iowa in 1992. Also celebrating a 20-year anniversaries this year are the Fort Riley, Kan., and Milwaukee, Wis., centers.
"At UIU, our faculty and staff care deeply about adult learners, the obstacles they face in making the decision to return to school, and in providing them with the tools and experiences from which they can draw in order to be successful in their chosen field," said Sarah Koepke, director of the UIU Wausau Center. "Part of our growth stems from word-of-mouth about our commitment to supporting these adult learners from their very first contact with the center throughout their time at UIU."
From the 2010-11 academic year to this academic year, the Wausau Center experienced a 41 percent increase in new students. For the first three terms of this year (July-October 2012), the Wausau Center experienced a 45 percent increase in new students over the same time period in 2011-12. Wausau Center staff meets individually with students to discuss their educational goals and help them develop a plan for success, Koepke said.
"As word has spread about our strong academic offerings, schedule and delivery flexibility, growth at the Wausau Center has significantly increased," she added. "Our staff continues to hear from alumni about the positive impact their UIU education has had on them both personally and professionally. Some of our current instructors are UIU alumni who had transformative experiences here and have a strong desire to give back to others throughout northern and central Wisconsin."
The Wausau Center, located within Northcentral Technical College at 1000 W. Campus Drive, serves more than 250 students, on average, with courses in12 degree programs. Courses are offered during six eight-week terms throughout the year. The UIU Online Program also offers master's degree programs and many of the courses for the undergraduate degree plans.
