FAYETTE, Iowa (July 15, 2013) – Upper Iowa University is widely known for making education accessible in many of its programs through a variety of learning experiences. Those seeking a bachelor's degree in nursing will now have those same opportunities as UIU adds an online option to its popular RN-BSN degree program beginning in August.
"We are pleased to be able to provide online access to Upper Iowa's fastest growing degree program," said UIU President William R. Duffy, Ed.D., Ed.S. "More and more health care organizations are requiring nurses to complete a bachelor's degree as the demand for highly skilled nurses continues to grow. That means an increasing need for Registered Nurses to advance their skills by completing the BSN. With so many RNs working full time, it can be difficult for them to find time to complete that degree. The new UIU online option gives them much greater opportunity to go back to school for the BSN."
Upper Iowa already offers the RN-BSN program in Iowa at its Fayette campus, the UIU-Des Moines Center, UIU-Cedar Rapids Center, and the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa, as well as at the UIU-Mesa Center in Arizona. By adding the online option, UIU's RN-BSN program provides opportunities for students in most states.
"By offering the program online, we are making higher education more accessible for nurses all over the United States," said Dr. Sheryl Juve, chair of the UIU Nursing Department. "This is very important as research shows that more educated nurses result in better outcomes for patients. We are thrilled to be able to offer the program online to meet the needs of our nurses."
"Thank you to our Nursing Department for championing this effort and for working closely with the UIU Center for Distance Education and the Integrated Enrolment Center," said Duffy.
