New students at Upper Iowa University join in the opening convocations. Preliminary figures show at least a 10 percent increase in enrollment at the Fayette campus.
FAYETTE, Iowa (August 26, 2014) – Although final enrollment won't be known until "census day," preliminary figures at Upper Iowa University show approximately a 10 percent increase in enrollment on the Fayette campus.
UIU classes started August 25 with 1,088 students enrolled on the Fayette campus. Of those, 645 are returning upperclassmen and 443 are new students, with significant increases in both U.S. and international freshmen. Enrollment of 135 freshmen from 19 countries around the world, as well as nine transfer students from UIU Malaysia, continues to make UIU one of the most diverse institutions in Iowa.
UIU also is showing about a 10 percent increase in residence hall occupancy. However, UIU has been able to accommodate all students wanting campus housing due to three suite-style residence halls constructed in recent years.
"UIU is seeing outstanding enrollment throughout all our learning experiences," said UIU President William R. Duffy II, Ed.D., Ed.S. "The credit goes to our faculty and staff who have put their hearts into creating an excellent academic experience, a high-quality learning environment, and services that meet the needs of each student. Everyone at UIU is dedicated to working with students to give them the educational experience that fits into their life at a price they can afford, allowing students to earn their degree and change their lives forever."
Preliminary enrollment in other UIU learning experiences also is looking strong for the 2014-15 academic year. MBA program enrollment is up 3 percent, as well as two center locations in Iowa – Waterloo and Quad Cities. The MBA program will roll out at the UIU Des Moines location in January. Enrollment in the online undergraduate program is also up 3 percent compared to 2013-14. Overall, the RN-BSN nursing program has seen approximately a 40 percent increase in enrollments. The nursing program is offered at three center locations – Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Mesa, Ariz. – and through the online program. Although final numbers are not available yet, UIU Hong Kong and Malaysia are on target to reach their goals.
Final enrollment numbers will be available on the September 8th "census day," arriving 10 school days after the start of classes when colleges and universities officially record their data for the 2014-15 academic year.
