FAYETTE, Iowa (July 15, 2014) – Continuing professional education courses for nurses are now available through Upper Iowa University, as UIU launches a new partnership with CEPartner. This partnership will enable UIU to offer continuing education courses for the nursing profession initially, and other professions in the near future. CEPartner is a software company based in New York and Los Angeles.
"UIU has entered into an agreement with CEPartner that empowers the University to respond to the ongoing demand of nurses for online continuing education courses," said UIU President William R. Duffy II, Ed.D., Ed.S. "UIU has a well-earned reputation in the field of nursing for providing quality education; and we have 15 years of experience designing and delivering successful, high quality and nationally recognized online programs. As working professionals, most nurses are challenged to find time in their schedules to take face-to-face continuing education courses. The UIU ever-growing portfolio of online continuing professional education will continue to meet the educational needs of working professionals into the future."
CEPartner President and CEO Matthew S. Collier said "We are very excited about our new partnership with Upper Iowa. This is an important step for both organizations that will ultimately serve to significantly advance the lifetime learning goals of many UIU students – now and well into the future."
Nursing is one of 48 professions required to complete continuing education annually to maintain certification. UIU is initially launching online continuing education courses for the largest group, nurses, but will continue to broaden into other professions.
Virginia (Ginny) Wangerin, UIU director of nursing, noted that the UIU continuing education courses are reasonably priced and will be completely offered online. Course offerings vary in format: downloadable PDF documents, PowerPoint, audio, video, or interactive websites. All courses offer online registration and completion documentation. Wangerin, along with Rhonda DeBuhr and Rachel Riegel, were the first nurses to complete one of the new UIU courses.
DeBuhr said she was pleased by the ease of registering for the courses, the quality of the content, and the instant availability of a certificate of completion for her records.
"When I worked full time as a chief nursing officer, continuing professional education was readily available to me," DeBuhr said. Now that I have retired and am teaching part-time, I searched for a dependable provider that would assist me with keeping my nursing knowledge current and relevant, as well as meet my needs for license renewal. I will certainly want to use UIU as the provider for my future education needs."
Riegel added, "As a graduate of the Upper Iowa BSN program, I was confident that UIU continuing professional education courses would offer great opportunities and quality. I was pleases to see the course offerings provided a variety of choices that apply to all specialties and interests. The content was interesting, applicable, and user-friendly making continuing education convenient and enjoyable."
According to Wangerin, UIU currently offers 75 online CPE courses for nurses on a variety of topics, and that new courses will be added regularly. All courses are accredited according to national nursing standards set by the appropriate accrediting organizations for the profession, she added.
"UIU is very comfortable that these new courses adhere to the same high standards of quality maintained by our other academic programs," Wangerin said. "Having taken one of these continuing professional education courses, I can say that I found it to be well written and organized, using current evidence-based resources. It was easy to register and set up my account on the webpage, and now I can just go to the website and sign in to complete more programs or review my certificates.".
