IEC embraces ‘Employee of the Month’ program
Bringing together different departments from across campus can be a challenging endeavor. After individuals from different areas were combined earlier this year to form the Integrated Enrollment Center (IEC), Dr. Allen Thompson, associate vice president, looked for ways to build a sense of community among members of the newly created group. In May, he developed the 'IEC Employee of the Month' program. All employees directly related to IEC, including those in the Centers, are eligible for the program. In order to be nominated, another unit within the IEC community must nominate someone from outside their area of expertise. Dr. Thompson said he is looking for candidates who go above and beyond their normal day-to-day routine to assist students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members.
The first 'Employee of the Month' in June was Jean Erickson, document processing specialist, Financial Aid. Those who nominated her said: "Jean is always happy to help students with what ever financial aid questions they may have. She has a positive attitude and is a true professional."
July's 'Employee of the Month' is Doreen Boudreau, Center-based Financial Aid Adviser/Student Account Specialist - Madison Center. Thompson said she was selected because of the work she's done with the FoodShare (food stamp) program in Madison, Wis. Boudreau has made arrangements with the program's representatives to visit the Madison Center and take program applications from eligible UIU students who meet the program's household size and income requirements. One student who took advantage of the program through Boudreau's efforts said, "I think this is an awesome undertaking for our campus, and it shows that you all really are invested in us, as a student body. I salute you and just wanted to take the time to say a heartfelt thank you from myself and my peers."
