After graduating from UIU in 1946, Betty went on to have a successful career in teaching for many years. She and her husband, Bill, were instrumental in the landscaping project to beautify the campus in the 1990s, helping to make the Fayette campus more appealing to prospective students.
Since Bill’s death in 2000, Betty has continued the giving. She pledged the money to start work on the Andres Center for Business and Education and has founded, along with the help of many alumni, two scholarships in the Andres name. Betty currently serves on the UIU Board of Trustees.
"followed the generosity she and her late husband, Bill Andres, retired CEO of Dayton Hudson Corporation, bestowed upon Upper Iowa University. Funds for the completion of the Andres Center for Business and Education reached over $2 million and was the combined effort of the Andres family, students, faculty, staff, community, businesses and alumni. The Upper Iowa University campus landscaping project and the Sculpture Education Program were also made possible through the Andres' support.
