Meet Jay one of UIU's transfer students
Year: Junior

Major: K-12 P.E., Health, & Coaching Education

Home town: Epworth, IA

High School: Western Dubuque High School

Activities on campus: Student Activities Board member, Football (Quarterback).

Why did Jay choose UIU? To play football and because of the people here.

What intrigues Jay most about his Education major? Teaching children and touching their lives.

What does “Being a PEACOCK” mean to Jay? It means being part of a community of faculty and students where you feel wanted and are not just a number. It’s being part of something great!

What has made Jay a better person at UIU? Playing football has taught me leadership, friendships, and team chemistry.

What does Jay like best about the campus? The small, friendly atmosphere.

Honors and awards Jay has received: Iowa State Football championship team in 2001, set many records in high school football, first team all-independent conference at UIU.

Jay on the transfer process: All my credits transferred easily. UIU is a better “fit” for me both academically and athletically because I am not just a number here. The thing I appreciate the most about UIU classes is the two-at-a-time course scheduling. This has enabled me to absorb and retain materials much more easily than the semester system I came from.
