Fayette campus student Internet to see upgrade!
Upper Iowa University has partnered with Apogee to provide network service and support to your residence. To ease the transition, follow the steps below as early as October 9, 2012 to register for service. If you have any questions, Apogee's network support center is available 24-hours a day at 855-813-7009. You can also send us an email at support@myresnet.com, or text "ResNet" to 84700 and a support representative will get in touch with you.
1. CHOOSE A NETWORK PACKAGE
Because everyone uses the Internet differently, Apogee lets you choose the ResNet service that's right for you. The speed you choose will determine how fast you can browse, stream, and download from the network, as well as how many mobile devices you can connect at one time (like a smartphone, wireless printer or gaming system).
2. REGISTER YOUR ACCOUNT
Beginning October 9, 2012, residents can pre-register for an account at www.myresnet.com. Once you've created a unique username and password, you can log in and access the ResNet on the day your building transitions. (Please go to the UIU IT Maintenance Calendar to see proposed target dates for your building.)
3. CONNECT YOUR DEVICES
To connect devices to the network, simply log in to your dashboard at www.myresnet.com and select Connect a Device. Follow the prompts to link each mobile device to your ResNet account. (As a reminder, go to https://ittickets.uiu.edu/otrs/customer.pl for FAQ's regarding how to find your device's MAC address.) If you need any assistance registering or connecting your devices, call Apogee support at 855-813-7009. A support representative is available 24 hours a day to assist you.
UIU IT Service ticket numbers are down...Good News!
The month of August is typically one of the busiest months for the UIU IT department. The combination of returning students, new students, and new faculty and staff generates an extreme workload on top of an already bulging backlog of service tickets. But, this year has been a bit different.
Last year's month of August seen 1,638 service tickets created while the 2012 comparative time frame lists 1,194 creations. Although this is still a very large number of cases for the crew of 9 plus 2 part-time work study students to handle, the reduction of 444 new tickets is a welcomed sight. Why the significant decline in new service ticket creations? As with any technology situation there could be a number of reasons.
Perhaps the added FAQ's to the service ticket login page or even greater awareness of the full array of FAQ's once logged in to the ticket system plays a part. Maybe the added self-help options on the IT webpages played a part. It could be the additional training for the RA's (KUDOS TO YOU ALL!) regarding UIU technology. Or, maybe the UIU Community is starting to reap the benefits of the multitude of various UIU strategic projects, policies, and process redesigns.
Don't get too excited yet though. As you may remember from the most recent IT newsletter (August 1, 2012), the enormous backlog is still affecting IT service requests and resolution times. But, as over half of the current backlog are duplicate ID removal requests, the aforementioned process redesigns will hopefully continue to reduce service ticket load therefore reducing your resolutions times.
