Jackson Hayek

Jackson Hayek

Jackson Hayek is a proud Upper Iowa alumnus. Having been a student once he knows the value of good financial aid and scholarships that help students graduate with less debt. That is why Jackson will be riding Team Peacock for the 3rd consecutive year-to help ease the burden of loans on UIU students. When he's not training rigorously for Team Peacock, he enjoys many other outdoor activities including skydiving, mountain climbing, surfing and grizzly bear hunting. It should be noted that while he has not actually done any of these himself, he enjoys watching documentaries about them for when he is ready to attempt them.

"I just feel it better prepares me mentally in my training for Team Peacock. Case in point; when I'm out having very tough day of hills on Ragbrai and I'm ready to collapse, I just think of how being attacked by a grizzly bear would be much worse, and the rest of the day is like walk in Disney Land. Or, how I could be skydiving and my parachute doesn't open - then biking the hills in 100 degree heat doesn't seem all that bad." Hayek said.

Hayek claims to have been raised by Indians as a kid where he learned how to tap into the spirits of nature for energy. When asked if that spiritual energy will help him sail past Lance Armstrong this year, he said "Look, has Lance ever hunted Grizzlies, or surfed into a tidal wave? No he hasn't, so I don't really think that question was called for. Besides I'm riding to raise money for student scholarships and Lance isn't."
