Melanie DeBoer is in her first year of being part of the Peacock Family. She was welcomed into the fold via the Athletics department, as she has taken on Director of Athletic Recruiting responsibilities in late January. Her passion is to see students thrive, and one way to accomplish that is through scholarship. This is why she is riding RAGBRAI; to help ease the stress of financial burden on students, so they may focus on academics and organizations at UIU.
DeBoer is a native of Wisconsin, but has made her way around the Midwest circuit. Since graduating from college in 2003, she has lived in Indianapolis, Chicago, Orange City, and now Fayette. It was quite a culture shock going from city life to rural America. Being from a small town, Melanie appreciates all that Fayette has to offer: few distractions and lots of land to explore. When she' s not working in Dorman Gymnasium, you can find Melanie training for RAGBRAI with fellow Team Peacock members, and hearing horror stories exemplifying how much her lower body will hurt for weeks after RAGBRAI is finished.
"I'm really looking forward to the grueling hours of training, and then riding bike across the state," said DeBoer. "Sunburn, sore muscles, and fatigue are waiting for me in the Mississippi, and I can't wait to get this ride started!"
