» Why is Team Peacock Raising Money?

Upper Iowa University strives to provide a quality education at an affordable cost.  The problem is, there are many factors outside our control which influence the costs to our students.

Many of our students live off-campus and have families to care for.  They are affected by the rising costs of gas and utilities.   Like more things in this world, the costs of textbooks and other supplies are on the rise.  Many of our students must pay day care expenses while attending classes.

All of these outside factors and many more affect a student's ability to obtain a college education.  These costs cannot be controlled by anyone at Upper Iowa, but yet make a significant difference to our students.

The money we raise for scholarships helps defray one of the costs to our students.  While we work hard to keep UIU affordable, we recognize that many of our students may need financial assistance to meet their educational goals.

Several years ago, Upper Iowa University recommitted itself to strengthening its internal scholarship program for students; scholarships that would recognize academic excellence and continue to make high quality education affordable. Towards this end, in the last several years UIU has doubled the amount of money awarded through these scholarships, and we are not done yet. Our goal is to award a quarter of a million dollars each year to deserving students. Through the generosity of our great alums, friends of the University, and special events such as Team Peacock riding RAGBRAI, and YOUR help, we will soon reach this goal. This is our commitment to helping our students be able to afford a high quality education and to graduate with less debt.
