Department of Human Services

DIVISION OF LIBERAL ARTS

UPPER IOWA UNIVERSITY

Human Services is an interdisciplinary major designed for students who intend to pursue careers in the human service fields after graduation.  Course work includes courses from sociology, psychology, and the social welfare area.  Students graduating with a degree in Human Services from Upper Iowa University will have a broad based understanding of the behavioral sciences and will be qualified for a wide range of occupations in the expanding market of human services.

Internships are available to students of human services. There are several internship opportunities that allow students to experience the “real world” and to put their skills to work. Students actively participate in selecting their internship experience, and can design them for consistency with their interests and career goals.

The human services major prepares students for a wide variety of careers upon graduation. Some of the choices of Upper Iowa University human services majors include:  positions in social service agencies such as Department of Human Services, health care, programs for at risk juveniles, and child welfare.

The human services major can also serve as preparation for graduate school, where students may seek training in Social Work, pursuing an MSW or Doctorate in Social Work.
