About me...
My name is Mohammad Manzoor Murshed. People usually call me by my last name "Murshed" or by my nick name "sohel". I am from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I was born and raised in the capital city Dhaka, but originally my home district is Comilla. For the last seven years I have been living abroad, working as a faculty member at Upper Iowa University in Iowa. I love to read. Whenever I get time, I travel. I like gardening and lots of silly things like stamp & coin collecting, drawing, making funny rhymes, poems or stories for my daughter Nawshin. She is the best thing that ever happened to my life. I always thank "Allah" for this beautiful gift. My wife is a medical doctor, her name is Dr. Nihad Yasmin. I am a singer. I also can play some musical instruments like harmonica, piano and guitar. Although after moving to USA due to our busy life I hardly get any time to practice or sing. I took some piano and music lessons and occasionally perform at small concert or family gathering.
One of my favorite things is to watch the stars at night. I like to read about astronomy. I love to watch the moon and stars through a telescope. Currently I am working as an Associate Professor at Upper Iowa University. I received a B.Sc (Honors) in Applied Physics and Electronics and M.Sc (Thesis) in Computer Science from Dhaka University, Bangladesh. I also earned an M.S. in Computer Engineering and a Certificate in Information Assurance from Iowa State University. Over the last several years I have published several papers in my major areas of research, which include Information Assurance, Computer Networks, and Natural Language Processing.
Prior to joining the Upper Iowa University faculty position, I was a member of the Electronics and Computer Science Department faculty at Jahangirnagar University in Bangladesh. At Upper Iowa, I teach Computer and Information Systems-related courses. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I serve as technical advisor to the local chapter of Phi Beta Lambda , a student business leadership organization.
