UIU Financial Aid Office recipient of 2006 John Moore Award

FAYETTE, IOWA (April 19, 2006) -- Upper Iowa University is proud to announce its financial aid office is this year’s recipient of the John Moore Award, presented by the Iowa Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (IASFAA). The honor is given annually to an outstanding financial aid office that has shown the highest standards of service and commitment to its students and community.

UIU’s financial aid office was commended based on the recent implementation of a new office strategy. The plan included reorganizing into teams with extensive cross-training efforts to simplify and streamline the financial aid process at the university. “This course of action has decreased processing time of files and increased customer service greatly,” said Jeannie Barness, associate director of financial aid. “We are a very personable and dedicated office that wants students to be at ease when they visit, knowing we will do what we can to help them.”

IASFAA was founded in 1968 to provide education and support to financial aid professionals. According to Aaron Steffens, president-elect of IASFAA, 100 percent of Iowa’s private colleges, as well as its three state universities, have representation in the organization. Many of the state’s community colleges and some proprietary schools are also members.

The John Moore Award is named in honor of the first IASFAA president John E. Moore, who has since retired from the University of Iowa. UIU received a $500 cash award and a plaque for a job well done.
