Des Moines student awarded Upper Iowa University’s first Tvrdik scholarship

Des Moines (March 20, 2006)—Stephanie Baugh, a Norwalk, Iowa resident and Dean’s List student pursuing a human resources management major through Upper Iowa University’s Des Moines Center, was awarded the first Diane Tvrdik Memorial Scholarship. Baugh received the $500 scholarship on February 15 in a ceremony led by Steve Tvrdik, Diane’s son.

Diane Tvrdik’s family established a scholarship fund with Upper Iowa University after she died of cancer in August 2002. Diane taught courses for over ten years at Upper Iowa University’s Des Moines Center and in the External Degree Program after retiring as an administrative law judge and mediator with the Iowa Public Employment Relations Board. She was a child support recovery attorney, court appointed special advocate, and a member of the Iowa Organization of Women Attorneys.

Eligible students must be pursuing a degree with a major in human resources management or teacher education through Upper Iowa University’s Des Moines Center or External Degree Program.
