Upper Iowa University Phi Beta Lambda is big winner at 2006 State leadership conference held in Cedar Falls

Fayette (March 16, 2006)— The Upper Iowa University Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) competed in the 60th Annual Iowa PBL State Leadership Conference held March 3-4, 2006 at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  This year’s state conference was special in that the alpha, or very first, chapter of PBL in the nation was held at UNI 60 years ago.

            Five Upper Iowa students picked up individual awards, which included Garett Kuehl: 1st in Business Math, 3rd in Economic Concepts, 5th in Accounting for Professionals; Amanda Hayward: 1st in Word Processing, 3rd in Business Math, 5th in Computer Applications; Tricia Pugh: 2nd in Computer Applications; Andy Pugh: 2nd in Marketing Concepts; Mistie Holaday: 3rd in Marketing Concepts.

            The UIU chapter of PBL also received the following chapter awards:  1st Place for Community Service Project (Halloween Fun Fest), written and presented by Andy and Tricia Pugh; 1st for Local Chapter Annual Business Report, written by Andy and Tricia Pugh; 3rd for Largest Local Chapter Membership; 4th for Chapter of the Year; and 4th for Event Sponsorship.

            In addition, Lynn Isvik, UIU Associate Professor of Business and Division Chair, was recognized at the conference as the 2006 Outstanding Local Advisor.  Professor Isvik has received this honor three times in past years (2001, 2002 and 2003).

            Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) is a nonprofit education association for students preparing for careers in business and business-related fields.  The PBL Division was established for postsecondary students and currently reaches over 10,000 college students nationwide.  Its mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.  For more information about PBL, go to www.fbla-pbl.org.
