Upper Iowa University grad wins last chance award at national PBL contest

Fayette, Iowa (July 14, 2006) – Although Tricia Pugh graduated this spring from Upper Iowa University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing, she was still entitled to attend the 2006 Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tenn. last month. Pugh placed tenth overall in the computer applications competition, one of only four students from Iowa who placed in the national competitive events this year.

PBL is the college division of Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, an association of students preparing for careers in business and business-related fields.  The organization's mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.  During the National Leadership Conference, members and advisers participated in business-related and leadership development workshops, toured business and corporate facilities, elected national officers, and participated in national competitive events.

“My husband, Andy, and I were co-presidents of PBL this year at Upper Iowa,” said Pugh. “And since we are official members until July, it gave us eligibility to compete.”

Also attending from Upper Iowa were Garett Kuehl and Andy Pugh, along with Lynn Isvik, UIU associate professor of business and chapter advisor.  Isvik was recognized as the Iowa outstanding advisor of the year during the conference and received a $100 honorarium for the award, which was sponsored by Wal-Mart.

“Lynn so deserves her award because of her dedication to her students and PBL,” said Pugh.  “I am looking forward to joining the organization as a professional division member now that I’ve graduated.”
