It’s all about the kids

Upper Iowa University professor to establish a Saturday art program for local elementary children

Fayette, Iowa (July 6, 2006) – The Fayette County Community Foundation awarded Upper Iowa University art professor John Siblik with a grant in the amount of $1,196.00 during a formal ceremony at the Fayette Opera House in Fayette, Iowa.

Siblik applied for the funds to start a Saturday art program for children in Fayette County. The Saturday art program is planned for January and February, 2007 and will be offered to elementary students throughout Fayette County.

“The main objective of this program is to foster the development of a better understanding and appreciation for the visual arts and that these children carry this appreciation with them into the future,” said Siblik. “Just as important, the program will give students an opportunity to express their creative inclinations.”

Upper Iowa University is donating the use of its facilities on the Fayette campus, with Siblik being assisted by UIU art education and elementary education students.
