Upper Iowa University takes quality improvement to the next level

Fayette (March 16, 2006)—On Tuesday, March 14, thirteen Upper Iowa University (UIU) staff members were presented with certificates of completion by President Dr. Alan Walker for their participation in a four-month Academic Quality Improvement Process (AQIP) training program facilitated by Stan E. Jensen, Ph.D of Leadership Enterprises, Inc., Bondurant, Iowa.

The AQIP training class was held to prepare University personnel as future committee facilitators for the ongoing AQIP accreditation process at the University.  May, 2005, Upper Iowa was accepted into the AQIP accreditation program, which supports continuous improvement in higher education and provides an alternative process for colleges and universities to maintain their regional accreditation.

With an innovative array of cost-effective, high-tech processes, AQIP helps an institution demonstrate it is meeting accreditation standards and expectations and striving to improve its performance.  Members were instructed on presenting to a group, leadership skills, specialized software, and meeting dynamics and management tools.

“I fully support this peer-driven initiative that allows our personnel to be trained in these processes and gives them the knowledge to move forward on AQIP projects, which makes this class particularly important,” stated Dr.Walker.  He added that the training would not only be useful in enhancing their UIU responsibilities, but would also be extremely valuable to the other roles each might play in community involvement.

Graduating members of the AQIP training class included the following UIU personnel:  Ron Crooker, Joyce Czajkowski, Brett Devore, Mike Estrem, Karla Gavin, Kathy Guyer, Kent McElvania, Dr. Ed Ogle, Jessica Paige, Dr. Joycelyn Parish, Dr. Tom Parish, Rebecca Vagts, and Holly Wolff.
