Matt Hoover, winner of NBC Reality Show “The Biggest Loser 2” will be a guest at Upper Iowa University’s 15th Annual Wellness Fair

Fayette (February 2, 2006)—Upper Iowa University (UIU),  will hold its 15th Annual Wellness Fair on Thursday, February 16, 2006 on the Fayette campus.  This year, in addition to the 51 different organizations and vendors invited to set up booths at the fair, UIU will host special guest Matt Hoover, the 29-year-old former Iowa wrestling star, who won the popular NBC reality television show “The Biggest Loser 2.”  Hoover lost 157 pounds from his original weight of 339 pounds, a 46.21 percent decrease in total body weight, during his appearance on the show, which made him the biggest loser of all the contestants on the show -- but certainly not a loser for his efforts.

Upper Iowa University’s Wellness Fair is designed to raise awareness, demonstrate resources, and inform students, as well as the local community, about topics on wellness. “I believe it is important to educate individuals that Wellness is more than just physical,” states Debbie Sabelka, UIU Director of Recreation and Wellness.  “The concept of wellness advocates a balanced approach to life.  The Upper Iowa University wellness model includes six dimensions:  social, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, occupational, and physical.”

Sabelka adds, “The Office of Recreation and Wellness tries to encourage the Upper Iowa University community to discover what wellness means in their life.  We envision an environment that recognizes the value of each individual and his or her well being.”

UIU’s 15th Annual Wellness Fair will be held in the East Cafeteria of the Garbee Hall Complex from 10 a.m. to Noon.  Hoover will be available at that time to sign autographs and hand out t-shirts to the participants in Upper Iowa’s recent “Lighten Up UIU” campaign.

The public is invited to attend free of charge.
